7 Things I Have Learned in 7 Weeks at College

14 Oct

In honor of 7 weeks of college, I am going to share the 7 top things I have learned so far….

1. Time Management – or lack thereof

I have come to realize how naive I was coming to college, I honestly thought I would have a bunch of free time and not that much homework, I only have six classes, and pratically nothing on friday…..and quickly enough I found out I was really wrong. I learned how much free time I do not have, and my instense urge to constantly procrastinate. I cannot techinically say I have learned to manage my time beter, but learned that it is a problem I need to fix.

2.Freedom Rules!!!!….kinda

I love the Freedom that comes along with college. I get to do what I want when I want, there aren’t nearly as many rules in college than in high school. One thing I have learned though, is that responsibility comes with freedom. So its a bittersweet thing, I have all this freedom, but way more stuff that I have to responsible for and take care of.

3. Money Issues

Ummm…if anyone hasn’t told you before…college is expensive. Sure I had many people tell my this, but I didn’t take it to heart. It wasn’t untill I had to order my books a couple of weeks before classes start that I realized how expensive college will be. $400 for book and $250-$300 on supplies (architectures stuff) later I am now beginning to realize the importance of having a budget, in face the last couple weeksI have been trying to stick to one, but I haven’t been totally successfull. I can probably elaborate on that more in another post.

4. Its okay to be a Nerd

or Geek, whatever term you use. In college your paying an enourmos amount of money to be there and so there should be no reason why someone wouldn’t try hard in a class. I have no¬†problem sitting in the front of class, asking multiple questions, whatever it takes to get a good grade. After all what I learn now I will definetly be using the rest of my life, so why not do my best?

5. Try Something New

The Sorority I Joined

I have been trying to step out of my somewhat “comfort zone” and try different things on campus. Not only does it help to be social, but you might actually find something new that you like to do. Suprisingly I actually joined a sorority, which I never thought I would do, and I am taking Tae Kwon Do classes some nights of the week. And I enjoy it all.

6. Priotrities First

Before I started school, like I mentioned before I didn’t realize the amount of homework that I would be receiving. I thought that I could work 20+ hours a week and maintain good grades, but that wasn’t the case. I was losing massive amounts of sleep and in return wasn’t giving 100% on my assignments. I made my list of prioritizes and school was number one, I have cut down on the number of hours by half and am able to work harder and get better grades in my classes.

7. I am a Work in Progress

I cannot be perfect and I realize that. I do my best on my homework and have fun trying new things…..and I will learn more and more as I go on.

These are just some things I have learned so far……what have you learned???

To Work? or Not to Work?

5 Oct

That is the question…..

Lately¬† I have been struggling to get enough sleep everynight. I have come to realize that my schedule consists of school…homework….working…and my social life…leaving no time for sleep! I have begun to think about working less, that way I have more time on the weekends to do my homwork, rather than staying up late in the middle of the night to get things done. But I am not sure, because work = $money$ and without money I will have a hard time putting gas in my car and pay for books and supplies. Its a tough decision, but for now I am going to only work 10-12 hours a week instead of 20, maybe i’ll get more sleep that way.

If only there was more time in a day....
